The person interested in the psychic pursuit of the wicked, for example, certainly has as much in common basically with the policeman or detective as he or she has with other psychics, regardless of the differences that seem to exist. Psychic musicians or artists are highly interested in music, using their psychic abilities in that direction.

It would be most handy for him after some thinking to draw up his own statements of the areas of his main concentrations. Generally speaking, anything outside of that area is not to be expected from him: he need not concern himself there. He can quite honestly state that such and such is outside of the area of his concentration, at the far periphery of his “field.” People will understand if he is clear in his own mind. The same applies of course to healing. Regardless of the differences with which the public considers exists between the medical profession and psychic healing, psychic healers have very much in common with doctors or nurses, and use their psychic abilities in a way that follows those characteristics and leanings.

(After supper Debbie Janney visited without seeing Jane. Her cat, Kitty Cat, has been missing since 8 AM, and Debbie fears for its safety and/or life. She gave me a color photo of the cat to show Jane. The incident upset Jane, signifying as it did people’s urges to ask her all kinds of questions for all kinds of psychic help—taking it for granted that she was able and willing to offer that help. Jane said it made her feel “incompetent” that she couldn’t, or didn’t, pinpoint what had happened to the cat. She didn’t want to do such psychic detective work, she said, because it reminded her of her own difficulties—an obvious point we both mentioned. Yet there’s no controlling other people’s reactions to a given body of work, from which among other things such possibilities as finding lost animals—or people—could be deduced. Jane recalled her successes in helping to reassure the parents of two lost girls some years ago [in separate incidents] in the Midwest. I’d forgotten about these events, which contained some striking “hits” on her part. Neither girl was dead, by the way.

[...] Psychically, you are much more resilient now. [...] From your small circle of friends you do receive a very beneficial exchange of psychic energies and comprehensions.

[...] This sort of relationship with someone you both find congenial is a psychic breath of fresh air, in that it provides outlets and psychic interchanges that are extremely important.

[...] Of course within bounds, nevertheless a congenial friend or friends represents a basic need for psychic interchange, and even a safety valve for built-up pressures. The psychic interchange is the important aspect.

[...] Following The Seth Material, requests came that showed quite clearly he was regarded as a psychic. Psychics helped people. [...] He avoided being a “psychic personality” (in quotes) in grand terms. I am digressing here to bring you another issue: the strong responsibility he always felt toward his writing ability, he naturally felt toward the psychic ability—but without the necessary sense of discrimination, since he didn’t realize what such activities involved.

(Late yesterday afternoon my pendulum told me that Jane’s symptoms stemmed from her feeling that she had failed to become a successful “straight” writer—a novelist, poet, essayist, et al.; that she felt she had failed as the serious writer she had always dreamed of becoming, that the psychic work represented a turning down a wrong path; that actually, basically, the psychic work represented failure to her rather than success. [...]

It had a psychic basis. Tam wanted another psychic book. [...]

[...] Yet she’d found this deep yearning snatched away with the advent of her psychic abilities—goodbye to all of those accepted reviews, the critical success, even the money, that would go along with the conventional acceptable public image of the successful writer of good quality poetry and/or fiction. I said that most “successful?” poetry and fiction might not penetrate very deeply into the human condition, compared with the understanding her own psychic gifts offered, but it would have been safe and accepted by her peers. [...]

(Pause at 9:44.) There was a necessary period of time in which Ruburt and yourself experimented in several areas of psychic exploration, quite rightly picking and choosing those areas that suited you best, and ignoring others that you found for whatever reasons unsuitable. Ruburt quickly discovered that the public image of a psychic was quite different than that given to a writer, and so was the social image. [...]

(Pause at 10:05.) Even poetry did not seem to be work for a while, for example, nor did psychic activity for its own sake (Long pause.) All of this in its way fits together with other material—but no writers of merit, for example (intently), outside of Richard Bach, have written him to applaud his work, and to the writing community it seems he does not exist. The psychic community is a hodgepodge to which he feels no natural leanings, as far as its organizations or affiliations are concerned. [...]

These simple remarks will themselves be the basis for further rather involved discussions, as the mechanisms that are set into motion in such mental or psychic manipulation of matter have never really been explained. Remember however that such psychic manipulation of matter is the normal occurrence.

If you will remember what I have said about the way in which the universe expands, that has nothing to do with space, then you may perhaps perceive, though dimly, the existence of a psychic pyramid of interrelated, everexpanding consciousness that creates simultaneously and instantaneously universes and individuals that are given, through the gifts of personal perspectives, duration, intelligence, psychic comprehension, and eternal validity.

[...] I will mention however two incidents in which the two of you showed success in the psychic manipulation of the world of matter.

[...] There is no need for him to punish himself now either, because he did not take full advantage of his psychic opportunities. [...]

[...] Part of this is caused by a misconception, and it is because of this misconception that he found it difficult to see himself as a so-called psychic.

A psychic, he thought, should be calm, untouched by physical events, highly disciplined, rather than spontaneous, such as he was, and sensitive to inner moods, which he was. [...]

The psychic experiences are then used as poetic subjects, and this cycle of creativity is always enriched as the whole personality continually develops itself and grows. [...] The personality could not approach its own promise until the poetic nature led to the psychic development. [...]

This trick was this: it pretended to accept the psychic nature as part of itself and began a campaign ostensibly aimed at living up to its image, of adapting it. [...] Psychics were saintly, dignified, quiet, restrained. [...]

[...] The whole psychic development can and should, and was meant, to provide exactly what was needed, and its timing was no accident.

[...] No psychic action is invalid. Every psychic action exists, has an effect and has durability in terms of value fulfillment. Every psychic action, and a psychic action is any psychic happening such as a dream, or thought, that may have no existence in terms of space and time, every psychic action then contains within it the potentialities of value fulfillment, transference, and even energy transformation.

[...] The chemical, biological, electrical and psychic functions of the self are directly connected to the physical universe as a whole. [...]

[...] The self in nonphysical terms, in psychological, psychic and philosophic terms is not limited theoretically.

[...] So there are psychic customs as there are physical ones, religious and psychic dogmas, guided tours of consciousness in which you are told to follow a certain line or a certain program. [...]

[...] So, programmed ahead of time, they perceived [data] according to the psychic conventions that had been established. [...] You will believe the psychic tour books and go hunting for demons instead of tigers.

[...] She’s calling it Psychic Politics. [...]

Since his psychic abilities did not show themselves in a conventional fashion in his early years, he did not learn to trust them as he might have otherwise, yet this was part of the entire picture. [...] The high intellect or spacious mind is a combination of what you think of as psychic or intuitional, and intellectual qualities—only raised to a much higher degree, and united.

[...] You have cut down on your own psychic experience until you finish “Unknown,” because you did not want to take the time to record dreams, and you did not want psychic events—either of you—to spill over into your daily lives and intrude upon your “work.”

[...] Such a need wouldn’t have developed, of course, until she became aware of her psychic abilities to begin with. [...]

Other fields do allow for greater complexity of psychic organization, and let me remind you again that such psychic organizations do not involve a blurring of individuality in some undefinable whole, as for example any drowning of consciousness in some gigantic, benign superconsciousness. [...]

Also, for reasons that I will for now withhold, the psychic patterns within your physical universe are not maintained, as you know, indefinitely. [...] But psychic gestalts develop in terms of value fulfillment, and it is known at the first appearance of a physical pattern how long the particular to-be-built-up gestalt will be maintained.

A psychic gestalt is dependent upon matter, not for its identity but merely for its survival in the physical plane. Psychic gestalts or identities or individualities are for all practical purposes immortal. [...]

(Pause at 9:50.) I also want to stress the fact that the entire psychic area of expression belongs to the natural person. [...] Man, for example, exhibited natural psychic activity long before the birth of science —and for that matter before the initiation of formal religion. There is therefore a great connection between creativity—poetry in particular—dreams, and psychic exploration. [...] So remind Ruburt that his psychic activity represents a most basic portion of his nature—and of human nature. [...]

[...] The Stonehenge poem (that Jane began writing earlier in March, when we received an English postcard from Michael Lorimer) in a way is a case in point, since it shows the reawakening of a certain kind of creative and psychic activity. [...]

[...] The exterior interest, the physical manipulations, also stand for, and reflect, inner manipulations with psychic growth, and serve as symbols of a united psychological approach. [...]

However, dedicated psychic exploration of such a nature always brings with it increased intuitional powers, and new energy and a spiritual understanding that can be used then in any creative endeavor. [...]

[...] Each “greater personage” takes several parts, or brings forth several psychic children, who spring to life as individual human beings. These psychic children have as much say in their birth as you have in yours, physically speaking, and that is considerable.

(A one-minute pause at 11:48.) These are like psychic snapshots rather than physical ones, involving instances that are a part of your heritage — yours but not yours. [...] The old photographs will strike a chord within you, however, and so will the psychic memories.

In its own way, the world at any given time is a unit of individuals with deep psychic and biological connections. [...]

The personality also contains good intellectual capacities, and he should examine psychic experience in the light of his intelligence also. There are truths which the intellect cannot perceive, but the intellect knows the ego, and represents a firm and reliable pathway between the inner self and the ego; and psychic experience—I repeat, psychic experience—will not suffer from such scrutiny.

I do not speak here of acquaintances who do not understand the importance of psychic investigation. [...] And psychic investigation will, and should, increase that ability if it is properly begun, and if the ego is properly related to the physical environment.

A steady program, such as I have outlined, because of its conditioning routine, will allow the personality a progressive and safe entry into psychic experience that is firm, and will also strengthen the ego in its relation to environment. [...] But its ability to relate to others on the physical plane needs strengthening, particularly since the personality is vitally concerned with psychic investigation.

An emotion obviously does not take up physical space, yet it takes up varying amounts of psychic space according to its intensity. It seems to recede in time and to shrink in psychic space as the intensity of it begins to diminish. [...]

[...] The emotion will once again rush into the psychic space which is formed by elements in the personality’s psychological environment. [...] As the emotion diminishes it takes up less of your psychic space, fills up less of your inner environment, and you seem to yourself to recede from it.

[...] Putting up with him will not seem a chore if you realize that psychic energy is not only being used when you do so, but within reason, when you do so unresentfully, you are gaining psychic energies through interactions.

There is a constant give and take between psychic and chemical components which actually cause your daily weather, your weather cycles, seasons, droughts and storms. This physical weather then in its turn affects and changes the psychic atmosphere of each individual. [...]

[...] The force originates within the psychic or nonphysical aspects of each living creature within your system. This force acts as a balancing mechanism for the psychic structures, and through use of it living forms create and maintain in a most basic manner their own physical environment.

[...] Not only does the human system for example become influenced chemically, electronically and psychically by physical weather, but also the human system electronically, electromagnetically, chemically and psychically affects and creates the climate in which existence is possible.

[...] These are in some respects a different sort of camouflage, a self-formed, artificial and only partial enclosure, a beneficial psychic device within which the inner self momentarily and temporarily gathers and holds and collects as much psychic energy about it as it is capable of receiving, utilizing, and also withstanding. [...]

[...] All consciousnesses, therefore, either of a complicated psychic gestalt such as a man or animal, or of simpler gestalts such as an individual cell or molecule, nevertheless operate in and form about themselves mental or psychic enclosures, within which is naturally contained the capsule comprehension which is an attribute of all energy.

[...] In the dream Ruburt said the material told him that he had cancer, because in a previous life he did have clairvoyant knowledge, through his psychic ability, of his future disease; and since his psychic ability has only lately come to light with this material, you can see the connection.
